At this point in time, summer 2018, Rex was new to me, and he was far away from the global recognition that he has today. Hence why I was unaware about him playing at the Albert Hall ( one of my favourite venues in Manchester ) until the week before the concert. But I had to go ? Didn't I ? Well, I clearly thought I did, so I didn't think twice about buying a resale ticket at an extortionate price.

I was still quite a newby to Rex when me and one of my mates went to this concert, and therefore didn't expect a mile long queue made up from screaming 14 year old girls with Odd Future t-shirts on when we got to the venue 20 mins before doors opened. It was a shock to the system. I thought I left screaming kiddie concerts back in 2010 ?

So we ended up at the back, not the end of the world, at the ripe old age of 16 we were the prime target for small talk with the oldies at the back, it suited us. This did mean, however, we were taken by surprise by the ruthless mosh pits that emerged around the chorus of 'Lovin is Easy', to me it didn't feel like the time or place but the kids must have hit the sugar rush and needed to let off some steam, I'm sure the relentless screaming helped with that too.

Rex, though, was incredible. It was one of those concerts that, while I was there, ye it seemed fun, but it was the obsession that subconsciously grew afterwards that made me realise, wow, he actually blew me away ? He had such a calm nature with his boring little anecdotes and seemed very humble. And, you know the concert was good when you have no pictures to show for it, it's a good thing when you're too wrapped up in the moment to get your phone out, until you come to write a blog post about it and have absolutely nothing to show for the experience. Rex's songs were made to be played for a crowd, the ballads thrive while bouncing off the walls of the hall, from the mouths of hundreds, bellowing in unison. Wouldn't have rated it any less than a 10/10 experience, not sure if it was worth paying that much to a ticket tout, though. x
