The first instalment of ‘20 Something’, with me, Lilly T (the GOB of this blog), will air this Saturday, 5-6 pm on Radio M29! This marks the launch of the second most anticipated radio show of February 2025, because no one could ever take Nick Grimshaw’s crown.
Like all good things, this online community radio station came to me via a good old Google search. Run by volunteers, this local station ‘for Tyldesley and beyond’ seemed like the most welcoming of shallow ends, helping me to dip my toe into the world of radio. I’m beyond excited and can’t wait to get this show on the … air?
Since the day my vocal cords activated, I’ve either been singing, swearing, or talking about music. Whilst two of those won’t fly too well on air, someone’s allowed me to give the latter a whirl on Radio M29. Although, I won’t be held accountable if the occasional track introduction becomes melodised … for what else is a girl to do when given a microphone?
As you may have fathomed for yourself, I was raised by a combination of Jo Whiley’s infectious infatuations and Sara Cox’s tongue-in-(northern)cheek teatime tales, along with occasional parental guidance. I’ve always dreamed of captivating my own audience when I grow up. However, as my 23rd lap of the sun rapidly approaches, it has suddenly dawned on me that my time may be now.
As an ’02 baby, my job at Radio M29 seemed simple. Whilst I shall be forever indebted to the sonorous switch-ups of the last century that helped to curate the myriad of genres that we have today, it seemed my role would be to bring the listeners of M29 with me into the 21st century. So just like that, my show, ‘20 Something’, was born. Thank you, SZA.
My show will also feature the segment Behind Closed Doors, for all of those 20 Something tracks that might otherwise have saved for the shower, or other solo soirees. This feature is set to showcase the sounds of this century that, outwardly, we wish we could forget. Fortunately, I’m here to champion the cringe-fest that is this century’s pop classics. Like a G6.
I’m so excited to vocalise this blog and make the leap onto the first rung of the radio ladder. I’ll be keeping GOB’s Instagram account updated with all of my radio shindigs and links to the show, so if you’d be interested in hearing me yap, rather than just reading my drivel, follow along for the ride.
Finally, feel free to send your song suggestions my way, especially the ones that you save for Behind Closed Doors. You know you want to.
