I’ve been an avid Frank Ocean fan for years now. That is, obsessive and emotionally dependent on his music. Frank’s got so many of us in a chokehold, waiting patiently for the day we wake up to the notification we all crave – Frank dropped new music.

Finally, there’s a glimmer of hope: Coachella, one of the largest and most famous music festivals in America (and the world, for that matter), officially announced that Mr Ocean will be headlining on the Sunday night of the festival, the 16th and 23rd April, 2023. It’s time Frank, we all know it’s time.

Excitement around Frank’s third album began in 2019, when he released singles DHL, In My Room and Provider. However, all hopes and prayers of a new project were crushed after his younger brother tragically died in a car crash in 2020. Following this, Frank announced he’d be taking a break from music, hitting pause on any of his current projects.

Since then, Frank has been as allusive as ever. He launched his luxury jewellery brand HOMER, under the same name as his Apple Music radio channel, in August 2021. But it’s not $10,000 earrings that I want from you, Frank, it’s simply your voice on a track that I haven’t already memorised every ounce of. In short: I need fresh Frank.

Fans are speculating that he might pull a Kendrick and drop an album two days before his headline Coachella set (as Lamar did with DAMN in 2017). I’m going to keep dreaming that this will happen.

We all know Frank Ocean is many, many things, but predictable has never been one of them. So, I guess there’s no real way of knowing if he is planning on ever dropping any new music. Although, one thing’s for sure, regardless of what he’ll be playing, Frank will be gracing the stages of California this year, and hopefully not for the last time.

Tickets for this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival are available to buy now!
